Artist Comments
- This Raphael drawing of two angels was made in 1517-18 and rendered in red chalk. Like most of the renaissance master draftsmen, his drawings were most all prepared for a purpose to work out the figures, expressions, and details of larger painting or sculpture commissions. This one is somewhat mysterious in that the purpose is not completely clear. The result is stunning.
